Whether you are looking for some good times or you are just trying to decide how to enjoy the next trip away from home, I would highly recommend that you consider the city of Melbourne, Australia as a vacation destination. It's not too difficult to find Melbourne cheap hotels. Many people continye to flock to this place for very good reasons. I am listing just a few of the cool things to do:

The Weiribee Open Zoo: You can get here by car or by the city provided shuttle buses that operates from the city center to and drop you off right in front of the main entrance of the zoo. Some of the animals to be viewed are giraffes and koalas (my personal Australian favorite) among the amazing and spectacular variety of wild life.

The Royal Botanical Gardens of Melbourne: This is a gorgeous garden located in an attractive area of the city that boasts abundant wonderful plants from around the world. The garden is a short drive or you can use the public transport trams.

The well documented and popular "Great Ocean Drive" starts in Melbourne and is a wonderful drive stretching over 300 km overlooking a captivating and winding Victoria coastline. It takes you through little villages and towns. It takes about 3 hours, but is well worth it for a romantic trip. I compare it to driving up the California Coast. It's probably nicer....

The Yarra Valley: This is an amazing sight to check out. With the wineries at the heart of the Yarra Valley, you'll also discover art galleries, nice hotels, restaurants, cafes, antique stores, markets, nature walks and family attractions such as the Healesville Sanctuary. If you are into wine tasting, this is a can't miss. Most of the major wine producers in the world have stock in Yarra Valley and for good reasons.

Foster's Brewery Tour: Australia's famous brewing company Foster's was founded right here in Melbourne. The Foster's guided tour is a fun experience even if you're not a big beer fan. It's a similar tour to say, the Heineken experience. A lot of fun. 3 free drink coupons if you're of age.

Melbourne is fantastic for shopping enthusiasts; it has the fashion lanes and old arcades; it is also a the home of many boutiques, shops and stores. It is possible to choose local designs or shop for international brands.

My Christmas in Australia

So last year, my sister calls from Australia while the family is huddled, shivering around the fireplace to let us know that she is sunbathing on the beach. Yes, I am back home in the frigid Midwest and she is gloating how it is 85 and the water is amazing. She moved to Melbourne last year and travels all over Australia.

So this year, I did the smart thing. Since it's important to be with family for the holidays, I decided to invite myself to visit my sister! December is the time of the year when Australians take advantage of the beaches, outdoor sporting and other events, poolside barbeques and, well... you get the picture. Australia is actually also the most popular tourist spot for travelers from both Europe and North America that are escaping the freezing cold of winter.

So, having gone through this, here are a few suggestions to help you with your planning for a summer holiday in Australia.

1. Get a hotel. I stayed with family in Melbourne, but some friends of my sis's found a Melbourne cheap hotel without a problem. Having a place to stay is obviously important for any trip.
