The facilities of this Ibis hotel include a gym, an internet kiosk, meeting rooms and guest laundry.

My Christmas in Australia

So last year, my sister calls from Australia while the family is huddled, shivering around the fireplace to let us know that she is sunbathing on the beach. Yes, I am back home in the frigid Midwest and she is gloating how it is 85 and the water is amazing. She moved to Melbourne last year and travels all over Australia.

So this year, I did the smart thing. Since it's important to be with family for the holidays, I decided to invite myself to visit my sister! December is the time of the year when Australians take advantage of the beaches, outdoor sporting and other events, poolside barbeques and, well... you get the picture. Australia is actually also the most popular tourist spot for travelers from both Europe and North America that are escaping the freezing cold of winter.

So, having gone through this, here are a few suggestions to help you with your planning for a summer holiday in Australia.

1. Get a hotel. I stayed with family in Melbourne, but some friends of my sis's found a Melbourne cheap hotel without a problem. Having a place to stay is obviously important for any trip.
